Le Bien Public – regional edition
15/01/08
Abbaye de la Bussiere has just won another
award, this time from the Andrew Harper
Hideaway Report 2008, as the discovery
of the most impressive property of the
world. The American guide also awards
Clive Cummings, Hotel Manager of
the Year.
Andrew Harper is to tourism what Michelin
is to gastronomy. He is one of the
most respected travel writers of the world. 28
years ago, disappointed with generally
out-of-date guides, he created a monthly
report, called ‘Andrew Harper’s
Hideaway Report’. Today it
boasts 25,000 sophisticated and discerning
subscribers.
Talent, Brilliance
Andrew Harper travels incognito, (as
does his brother, Richard), paying his
own way throughout the world. His
aim is to discover extraordinary places
with something special. At the
end of the year, he awards special prizes
to certain places.
“We have no idea when Andrew Harper
came to the Abbaye, but the Abbaye was
featured in the April 2007 report, where
it was mentioned, amongst other things,
that the chef, Olivier Elzer, had an ‘exceptional
talent’ and that the meals were
accompanied by a ‘brilliant young
sommelier’, explains Julie Steele,
the Communications Manager for the Abbaye.
“A special edition came out at the
end of the year – ‘Special
Awards 2008’ – when the top
prizes were awarded. The Abbaye was
featured on the front page”, she
continues. The Abbaye received ‘Hideaway
of the Year’, which is to say the
property that most impressed him in the
world.
Likeable – Omnipresent
What’s more, Clive Cummings, who
manages the Abbaye, received the award
for Hotel Manager of the Year,
with the compliment, ‘An exceptionally
friendly host, with a real eye for detail
and omnipresent.’
“It’s a real delight and privilege
for Clive and the Abbaye”, continues
Julie Steele.
But not forgetting also the other accolades
won since opening in 2006:
Relais & Chateaux, Michelin star for
Olivier Elzer, who was also voted amongst
the best 22 young chefs in France by Gaultmillau,
Clive and Tanith nominated ‘Cote
d’Oriens en Lumiere’ in 2006,
Olivier Elzer, the same in 2007, recommended
by Conde Nast Johansen’s and finalists
for their ‘Most Excellent Hotel
in the World’ award, winners of the
2007 Trophes de Tourisme Cote d’Or
and Bourgogne awards. |
