Situated in the heart of Burgundy, Abbaye
de la Bussière is just half an hour’s
drive from the historic towns of Beaune
and Dijon.
Beaune is home to the famous medieval
Hôtel-Dieu, a former hospital and
part of the Hospices de Beaune, beautifully
preserved and giving a wonderful insight
into life in the Middle Ages.
Every year in November during the weekend
of ‘Les Trois Glorieuses’,
the Hospices auctions its wines, a world-renowned
event attracting thousands of international
visitors.
Visit the beautiful, old town of Dijon,
former base of the Valois dukes of Burgundy
and discover Dijon's 'Petit Louvre', a
wonderful Fine Arts Museum, based in the
formal ducal palace, the Notre Dame with
its famous 'good-luck' owl or the Saint
Benigne cathedral with its 11th century
crypt.
Three times a week, Dijon has it’s
own bustling market in and around the old
town and is well worth a visit. The
ornate food hall is surrounded by bistrots
offering a variety of traditional regional
fare.
Discover the famed Clos de Vougeot, with
its unique 12th century, 30 ton wine presses,
built by the Cistercian monks to make wine
for the sacrament. Today it is home
to the renowned Confrérie des Chevaliers
du Tastevin.
The Abbey is also on the doorstep of famous
abbeys, such as Fontenay or Cîteaux,
famous for its delicious cheese. From
the Abbey you might also wish to visit
the old town of Semur or Alesia, site of
the battle between Caesar and Verginterorix. |
